After the Akbelen massacre,
it is now Balikesir-Balya villages' turn

Limak Holding, the perpetrator of the Akbelen Forest massacre, has now set its sights on the villages of Balya district of Balikesir province!

Limak Holding has applied to open a cyanide-based gold-silver mine called "Karlık Gold-Silver Mine" in the middle of two villages in Balya. It is striking that most of the areas granted a mining license are outside the control of the area for which the EIA application was made.

Accordingly, Karlık and Söbücealan villages will be completely eliminated. The EIA area is very close to settlements and important water sources. The drinking water of the villages and the water sources feeding the Bird Paradise Manyas Lake will be poisoned with cyanide and heavy metals.

 SETTLEMENTS IN
 THE AREA WHERE
 THE MINE IS IMPACT:
 Karlık, Söbücealan,
 Gökmusa, Armutalan,
 Kırmızılar, Yaylacık,
 Tatlıpınar, Kayalar,
 Büyükpınar, Kurtdere,
 Yeniiskender, Kavaalan,
 Deliklitaş

İda Mountains Natural and Cultural Heritage Protection Association drew attention to the following points in its statement:

"The Balya district is currently surrounded by mining projects: The lead mine, abandoned in 1939, continues to spread poison today. In addition, there are mining projects by Eczacıbaşı, Oreks, CVK Mining, and Bahar Mining companies in the region. 80% of deaths in Balya are from cancer!

Enough! We don't want a mine in Balya. We haven't forgotten the mine disaster we experienced in Erzincan İliç. 9 workers died under toxic waste. Millions of tons of poison spread over a huge geography. If every corner of our country continues to be sacrificed for the sake of mines, we will experience similar disasters again."
