No to tree massacre in Şirnex!

On July 28, ecology movements and life defenders from the east and west of Turkey came together in the Kurdish city of Şirnex. They said, "No to the massacre of trees." The event, organized under the leadership of the Mesopotamia Ecology Movement, was also called by Ekoloji Birliği, which unites many ecology movements in Turkey.

The call of the Mesopotamian Ecology Movement states:

Systematic and controlled deforestation has been carried out in the Gabar, Uludere and Cudi regions of Şirnex province for years. According to official data from the General Directorate of Forestry, 18 percent of Şirnex's forest area has been destroyed in the last 3 years.

Applications to the court to stop the ecological destruction are fruitless. Despite all the reactions from the local people and civil society organizations, the tree cutting is not stopped. The governor's office declares "special security zones" every 15 days and the massacre continues.

They also turn the massacre into a source of profit

The statement also included the following: "It is not enough to have forest fires every year. It is not enough that these fires are not put out and that the public is not allowed to put them out. On top of that, they are uprooting them."

The Mesopotamian Ecology Movement drew attention to the fact that all hostile policies that ignore the importance of forest existence in the continuity of life of all living things are dragging the country and even the entire world into an ecological crisis. It stated that deforestation operations have caused many ecological, economic, cultural and sociological destructions. And it called all life and nature defenders, all civil society organizations, unions, professional chambers, political parties, women and youth to raise their voices against the massacre of nature and deforestation in Şirnex on July 28.
