Ekoloji Birliği Assembly Meeting Result Declaration
Ekoloji Birliği held its annual Assembly Meeting, which it has held every year
since March 25, 2018, when it announced its establishment, on May 11-12, 2024, for
the first time in the Kurdish geography. Our assembly meeting was held at Sezai
Karakoç Cultural Center in Amed.
As ecology activists, we want to draw attention to the ecological destruction taking
place in the Kurdish geography, without ever forgetting the fact that wars are the
greatest ecological destruction. Hasankeyf, which was submerged under water along with
the Ilısu dam in fronf of the eyes of the whole world, was only the part of the crime
seen from the outside. If hundreds of villages are flooded, it will mean the liquidation
of dozens of cultures and languages. The threats posed to the geography where the
Kurdish people live involve a colonial approach, as well as capital and rent.
With the construction of dams and hydro-electrical pover centers by abusing the
waters, burning of forests as a result of conflicts, thousands of licensed and
unlicensed mining sites, and the recently increasing number of solar power plants,
virtually no area has been left unoccupied in the region.
We, as Ekoloji Birliği, wanted to draw attention to the region by holding our last
council meeting in the city of Amed, which is under constant threat of ecological
destruction, together with our components that carry out the ecological struggle in
the Kurdish provinces. The earth is a whole and the fight against all destruction
must be carried out holistically and equally. As organizations struggling to survive
against ecological destruction, anti-democratic practices and war, we once again
expressed our promise in Amed that we will continue our struggle wherever there is
extinction, and we are conveying it to the whole country from here.
At our meeting, the Assembly made decisions for the upcoming period and elected our
components to take part in the Executive Board. Our Co-Speakers were determined in the
first meeting held with the Executive Board representatives elected in the Parliament.
Here we would like to point out once again that; with the decisions it takes,
Ekoloji Birliği Assembly will further increase the fight against ecological destruction,
make the solidarity between its components more visible, and continue to stand by
democracy and peace.
We respectfully announce to the public.
Ekoloji Birliği Co-Speakers
