Workers have been fired at
Yatağan Thermal Power Plant

187 workers have been fired at Yatağan Thermal Power Plant, where rumors of dismissal spread weeks ago. Tes-İş and Maden-İş unions, which are organized in the workplace, are silent against the dismissals.

Meeting in Düzce Akçakoca

On September 23, many non-governmental organizations and villagers came together in the Kaplandede area of Düzce's Akçakoca district and held a meeting in the Akçakoca Drinking Water Dam area. Green Life Initiative Platform, Western Black Sea Environment Platform, Climate Justice Coalition and political party representatives; Mayor of Akçakoca and villagers from surrounding villages made speeches.They stated that mining companies occupied the region and the forests were plundered with mining exploration licenses. They pointed out that the forest, water, air, ecosystem and our entire future are under threat. They touched upon the importance of fighting together.

Ömerler Village:
This mine will destroy agriculture

A feldspat mine will be opened at the bottom of Ömerler village in Karpuzlu district of Aydın province. The villagers, who were informed about the project only after the hill 300 meters from their homes was sold to the mining company, rebelled against this situation. The villagers came together and decided to fight. Particularly women attended the meeting held in the village coffeehouse, and environmental organizations from Aydın, Çine and Karpuzlu and some political party representatives also supported. Spokespersons of Çine Life Platform, Aydın Environment Culture Association, Aydın Ecology and Life Platform also attended the speeches. After the meeting, the villagers formed a committee and decided to expand both the legal and actual struggle against the mine.

Hydroelectric Power without water!

In Antalya province, Konyaaltı district, Doyran village, it is planned to build a HEPP on the stream whose water is almost dry except for 3 months of the year. The local people revolted, stating that the water accumulated in a pond of the stream was only enough for 11 neighborhoods in the surrounding area. Doyran residents came to the EIA meeting of the project with signs saying "No to HEPP" and "No HEPP with non-existent water". "Where will the wells in the plain be fed?", "What will happen to the animals in the valley?", they asked, and said, "Do not cause irreparable damage out of greed for profit. Do not play with our bread, our water, our livelihood."

Biogas pollution in Menderes River

A statement came from Arf Bio company regarding the pollution in Küçük Menderes river. The company shared the Ministry's inspection report, claiming that it did not release waste into the river. Environmental defenders said, "The visible village does not need a guide" and suggested, "Come, let's inspect it together!".

Cyanide danger in Van: AFAD Report

Upon the application of the State Hydraulic Works, the Van Provincial Disaster and Emergency (AFAD) team reported that "they detected cyanide in the Morgedik Dam." He stated that precautions should be taken as soon as possible. This situation caused justified concern in the public. Relevant institutions made mutual statements and argued that the allegations were not true. However, environmental organizations stated that the statements lacked the transparency and seriousness required by the problem.

Kaş people in revolt:
Forest park is forest massacre!

More than 2 hectares of forest area in the Düdenardı area of Antalya's Kaş district was rented to a private company for 20 years with a "touristic facility" tender, despite the public's reaction. Kaş Environment and Culture Association filed a lawsuit to cancel the tender. While the litigation process continues, an area within the red pine forest near the Ancient City of Phellos is being put out to tender under the name of "forest park". The people of Kaş held a protest rally in front of the tender site in Pınarbaşı on October 14, with the participation of representatives of non-governmental organizations, municipal council members and MPs. They demanded the cancellation of both the Pınarbaşı tender and the Forest Parks Regulation.

Not a new power plant,
but a fair transformation!

In Elbistan district of Maraş province, "Elbistan Life and Nature Protection Platform" held a meeting with Elbistan, Nurhak and Ekinözü municipalities against the "Afşin Elbistan Thermal Power Plant expansion" project. Ecological organizations such as "TEMA Foundation", "Greenpeace Turkey", "Association 350 for Climate", "European Climate Action Network", and "Clean Air Right Platform" also attended the meeting. At the meeting, ecological organizations emphasized the deadly damage of existing power plants on air pollution, agricultural productivity, ecosystem and health. Mayors also stated that what the region needs is not new coal power plants, but nature- friendly alternative investments that will benefit the people of the region and support fair transformation.

GPP officials were not allowed
to enter the village!

The EIA meeting that the GPP company wanted to hold in Havutçulu village of Efes Selçuk district of Izmir province turned into a "No to geothermal" rally. The villagers did not allow company officials into the village. They surrounded the cafe where the company wanted to hold a meeting with posters against geothermal. With slogans and speeches, they stated that geothermal power plants cause serious damage to agriculture, water, environment, air and people's livelihoods, and that they do not want geothermal. Representatives of ecological organizations and mayors of some districts also attended the villagers. Geothermal company officials could not enter the village. Only official institution representatives of the EIA meeting delegation could enter. Among the protests they recorded that the public does not want geothermal

Massacre Act

The "Law No. 5199", which will go down in history as the "Massacre Law", was put to vote in the Turkish Grand National Assembly on July 30. It was passed by the Parliament with the votes of AKP and MHP deputies. It was approved by the President, also an AKP member, on August 2. Since the Massacre Law came into force, there have been at least 144 cases of torture and killing of cats and dogs living on the streets. In these cases, thousands of animals living on the streets and kept in municipal shelters were harmed and lost their lives:
In August: at least 43 cases,
In September: at least 46 cases,
In October: at least 52 cases.
